German, French, Italian, and Romansh
-
Swiss franc (CHF)

Types C and J
-
Plan 7–10 days for two or three regions, such as Zürich, Lucerne, and the Bernese Oberland. Trying to cover too many mountain destinations can make the trip feel rushed.
-
June through September is best for hiking and mountain excursions. December through March is ideal for skiing and winter scenery. Some mountain transportation and trails close during the quieter spring and autumn periods.
-
Cards are widely accepted. Keep some Swiss francs for small businesses, markets, mountain facilities, and public restrooms.
-
Switzerland’s trains, buses, boats, and mountain railways are highly connected, making public transportation the easiest option for most itineraries. Compare individual fares and regional passes before buying a nationwide travel pass.
-
Bring sturdy shoes, layers, sun protection, and a waterproof jacket. Temperatures can change quickly with elevation, even during summer.
