Plan 7–10 days to combine Dublin with part of the west or south coast. With only 5–7 days, concentrate on Dublin and one additional region instead of attempting the entire island.
-
May through June and September offer long daylight hours with somewhat lighter crowds. July and August are the busiest months. Mild temperatures and rain are possible throughout the year.
-
Cards and contactless payments are widely accepted. Keep some euros for markets, small pubs, parking, and rural businesses.
-
Public transportation works well in Dublin, and trains and buses connect many cities. A rental car is the easiest way to explore the countryside and smaller coastal destinations. Driving is on the left.
-
Pack layers, waterproof outerwear, and comfortable weather-resistant shoes. A hooded rain jacket is more practical than an umbrella in windy conditions.
