Plan 7–10 days for one island or two nearby areas. Allow at least two weeks if you want to combine destinations such as Bali, Java, and the Komodo Islands without spending most of the trip in transit.
-
April through October is generally the driest period in many popular destinations. Weather patterns vary across the country, so check the specific islands you plan to visit.
-
Cash is important for small restaurants, markets, drivers, and businesses outside major tourist areas. Cards are commonly accepted at hotels, shopping centers, and larger restaurants.
-
Domestic flights and ferries connect the islands. Ride-hailing services and private drivers are convenient within many destinations. Traffic can make short distances take much longer than expected.
-
Bring lightweight clothing, sun protection, insect repellent, and a compact rain jacket. Pack clothing that covers your shoulders and knees for temples, along with a swimsuit and comfortable sandals.

Bali is a beautiful island with something to offer everyone. From stunning natural scenery to vibrant culture and delicious food, there's no shortage of things to see and do in Bali.
When I started planning my trip, I was overwhelmed with trying to figure out what I needed to see and do, what was even there to see and do, and what was possible to do within the time I had available to me. So I started off by making a giant list of everything I could find and where it was on the island. This made the planning process feel so much easier to handle. If you're planning a trip to Bali, be sure to add these bucket list locations to your itinerary.
