Plan 4–5 days for Paris. With 7–10 days, you can combine Paris with one or two additional areas, such as Normandy, Provence, the Loire Valley, or the French Riviera.

April through June and September through October generally offer comfortable weather and fewer crowds. July and August are popular but can be hot and busy. Winter is quieter and works well for museums, Christmas markets, and Alpine trips.

Cards and contactless payments are widely accepted. Carry a small amount of euros for markets, bakeries, public restrooms, and occasional minimum-purchase requirements.

High-speed trains connect Paris with many major cities. Local trains, metros, trams, and buses work well within populated areas. A rental car is most useful for villages and rural regions.

Bring comfortable walking shoes, versatile layers, and a compact rain jacket. A slightly dressier casual outfit can be useful for nicer restaurants.
