Plan 4–5 days for London. With 7–10 days, you can add one or two areas such as Bath and the Cotswolds, York, Cornwall, or the Lake District.
-
Late spring and early autumn usually offer mild weather and manageable crowds. Summer has the warmest weather but is also the busiest season. Rain is possible throughout the year.
-
Cards and contactless payments are accepted almost everywhere. Keep a small amount of cash for markets and occasional small businesses.
-
London and other large cities have excellent public transportation. Trains connect many major destinations, while a rental car is useful for villages, countryside, and more remote regions. Remember that driving is on the left.
-
Pack layers, comfortable walking shoes, and a waterproof jacket. A compact umbrella can be useful, although a hooded jacket is often easier in windy weather.
